The trail includes sections of elevated boardwalks as well as interpretative signs about the environment, historic events of the early colonists and Native Americans, and area wildlife.

The trail and the boardwalk may be used during all seasons and are ADA accessible. Benches are distributed around the trail for resting and viewing.

Over 230 species of birds have been documented on this site, which is part of the Virginia Birding Trail. Seasonal birding observations may be viewed via eBird
